The National Land Transport Amendment Act, in force from 11 March 2026, sets new rules for e-hailing. MobiYethu is not live yet. Start getting these in order now so you are ready to drive when we launch.
Your documents
- Valid SA driving licence, Code B minimum (EB allowed)
- Professional Driving Permit (PrDP), category P or G&P, valid for 2 years
- Medical certificate from a doctor confirming you are fit to drive
- Eye test for your PrDP
- SAPS criminal record check (police clearance)
- SA ID, or a valid passport and work permit (foreign nationals also need a Traffic Register Number)
- Proof of address
- 2 ID photos
- You must be 21 or older
Your operating licence
- An e-hailing operating licence from your Provincial Regulatory Entity (PRE), applied for on Form 9A. It costs about R600, is valid for 5 years and names the area you may operate in.
- A charter permit or meter taxi licence does not count. It must be an e-hailing operating licence.
- In Gauteng you also register with GIPTAS (PrDP, vehicle registration, ID and operating licence).
- The Department of Transport set a 180-day compliance window from 11 March 2026.
- The platform you drive for must be registered with the NPTR too. MobiYethu will register before it launches.
Your vehicle
- Registration papers in your name or the owner's name
